For Safety Trainers Who Want To Make a Difference

Cultural Differences - how much do they matter?

When I recently delivered a webinar on safety training games and activities and described an activity called Pin the Pain, one attendee questioned if the activity should be used with non-Americans. To be honest, I had always used it with mostly American audiences and it was not a problem. What do you think? Have you ever had an activity not work because of the culture of the attendees? Please share your experiences with the group. - LT
PS - Pin the Pain involves distributing a small rag doll and MSDSs to groups of trainees and then asking the trainees to "Pin the Pain," or mark where the chemical would affect the body if there was over exposure. This activity can also be done by handing out colored markers and asking the trainees to color the area instead of placing a pin there.
